Using Torture To Fight Terror (washingtonpost.com)
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Ok. So when I read that it sounds like a song in my head.
Let's try not to forget that the Constitution was written after a bitter revolution. "We" happened to win, but many of our neighbors were fighting for the other side not too long before. Even so, the framers really didn't want anything like the monarchy they kicked out a decade earlier. Due process was very important to them. This document really spells out what the people get and the government doesn't get.
